Tortuguero Tour & Pacuare River Rafting 5 Days

Explore Tortuguero National Park and its canals by boat and raft the Pacuare River, one of Costa Rica’s most famous and beautiful rivers. Mawamba and Tropical Rivers teamed up for this incredible five-day trip to two of our country’s most iconic locations.

Tortuguero National Park and its canals are one of the richest biodiverse areas in Costa Rica. From the Mawamba Lodge, you’ll boat deep into the national park, where you’ll be surrounded by wildlife on all sides! Monkeys, many kinds of birds, turtles, emerald basilisks, river otters, caimans, and more await you. Optional tours include night tours to nearby sea turtle nesting beaches and rainforest hikes.

After two days in Tortuguero, you’ll head to the primary rainforest in the Pacuare river valley. The Pacuare is one of the top 10 whitewater rivers in the world, renowned for its magnificent beauty and world-class whitewater. The Lodge rests right next to the river in the rainforest. Comfortable rooms with private bathrooms and hot water showers are the perfect setting for incredible nights of sleeping to the sounds of nature. You can enjoy activities like guided rainforest hikes, bird watching, self-guided walks to waterfall pools to swim, and relaxing in a hammock. Meals are served in the open-air pavilion, where you can listen to nature’s soundtrack of the jungle and river.

This afternoon you will paddle easy Class 2 and 3 rapids before arriving at the lodge. The following day is for exploring the rainforest around. On the last morning, you will raft out through the famous Pacuare Gorge. The experience is unforgettable as you raft exciting Class 3 and 4 rapids past cascading waterfalls and magnificent jungle. You’ll stop at a riverside beach for a picnic lunch. When you reach the take-out point, you will go to a place where you can shower and change clothes and then return to San Jose.
