San Martin, Pacuare River One-Day Trip
If you dream about rafting on a calm tropical river, the Pacuare is it! We offer the San Martin section with calm and very fun rapids, level I, II and III rapids, where all the family can participate with children 6 years age or older, in which you can enjoy the beauty of one of the top rivers in the world and an incredible variety of wildlife. You will be excited to launch your raft and begin to paddle of 13 kilometers (9 miles).
After an early morning pickup from your San Jose hotel, you will drive by private, comfortable bus to our meeting point for a delicious, typical Costa Rican breakfast. After breakfast and changing into rafting gear, we will drive to our private rafting put-in on the banks of the Pacuare River. Here we review and adjust all necessary equipment for proper fit, give you a comprehensive rafting safety talk, and instruct you on paddling basics.
Throughout the tour you will have the opportunity to swim or just float in the refreshing waters of this beautiful river, then we will make a stop for a river lunch on the banks of the river.
After having enjoyed a delicious and nutritious lunch, we continue the tour until we reach the departure point, where our vehicle will be waiting to take you back to your hotel or meeting point so you can continue to your destination.
What to bring
This list represents what you will need on the river. Space on the raft is limited. Therefore, it is
important not to bring anything extra.
- Rubber soled shoes (tennis or similar)
- Shorts and a T-Shirt.
- Towel • Change of clothes.
- Windbreaker (Optional).
- Sunscreen Lotion (Optional).
- Sun hat or Bandana (Optional).

Itineraries
- 05:00 a.m. – 06:00 a.m. – We will pick you up at your hotel in San José, Arenal, Puerto Viejo or Cahuita. We will drive by private, comfortable bus through impressive views. Our professional, bilingual guide – who is also a rafting guide – will tell you fun and important facts about Costa Rica along the way.
- 08:00 a.m. – Delicious and traditional Costa Rican breakfast
- 08:45 a.m. – 09:00 a.m. – After breakfast and changing into rafting gear, we will drive to the rafting put-in on the banks of the Pacuare River.
- 09:45 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. – Here, our professional, certified rafting guides will outfit you with all nece ssary equipment, give you a comprehensive rafting safety talk, and instruct you on paddling basics.
- 10:30 a.m.- You and your group will launch your raft and begin to paddle deep into the heart of one of Costa Rica’s most impressive primary rainforests.
Along the way, you will pass through densely vegetated rainforest gorges, view cascading
waterfalls, and relax in serene pools in between the class II-III rapids. Lunch will be served on the riverbank.
- 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. – Your bus will pick you up and take you to our meeting point for showers and optional drinks
2:30 -3:00 p.m.- Transportation back to your hotel.
Breakfast
Typical Costa Rican breakfast: gallo pinto, eggs, ripe plantain, cheese,
bread, fruits, orange juice, and/or coffee.
River lunch
Wraps (wheat tortillas, bread, refried beans, ham, turkey ham, yellow cheese,
white cheese, tomato, lettuce, onion, sweet pepper, cucumber, chimichurri,
mayonnaise, tomato sauce, mustard) fruits, cookies, water, and natural juice.
